Market Focus this Morning...
- President Trump saying China raising tariffs is 'un-acceptable', that China has no intention of changing unfair trade policy and that he has asked the US treasury department to identify an additional $200bln Chinese goods for tariffs as an escalation of the dispute if China raises tariffs again.
- Fed's Bostic (voter, dovish) says business optimism fading amid trade concerns but the Fed is comfortable with continuing to raise rates towards the neutral level and still favours three hikes in 2018.
- Fed's Williams (voter, hawk) said US growth is strong, labour market is strong, inflation near target
- German Chancellor Angela Merkel accepted a two-week deadline over tougher migration policy set by Interior Minister Horst Seehofer, who leads her Bavarian coalition partner.
- SPD leader Nahles saus migration agreement between CDU/CSU does not automatically mean that the SPD will support it.
- ECB's Vasiliauskas suggests there could be a decision on a possible hike around the autumn of 2019.
- Fitch cuts 2019 ECB rate hike forecast to 1 from 2
- OPEC is said to discuss an output hike of 300k-600k bpd, Russia has proposed a larger hike (1.5m bpd), while Iran backs status quo.
